Shidan,

Just to let you know we currently have over 40 parties which have
indicated interest in joining the organization and the response has been
better than expected. The process of electing the first real board of
directors is just now underway which is why there are none listed.

As far as benefits go, before the CAVP was formed, VoIP providers (other
than LECs) have almost no presence in the many regulatory consultations
that go on at the CRTC and as a result our voice is not heard before
critical decisions on regulatory policy are made.

By contributing a small amount to an organization we ensure that VoIP
providers are able to contribute to discussions. As a member you not
only are kept up to date on all regulatory issues regarding VoIP but
also have the benefit of helping to shape those policies and make sure
your interests are looked after.

Aside from all of the regulatory issue which CAVP will be dealing with
on behalf of members there are also other planned benefits such as legal
services. For example, in CRTC 2005-21 paragraph 4, the commission
specifically ordered VoIP providers to provide proper notification to
their customers about limitations of 911 service. It makes sense for the
CAVP to hire the lawyers to do this and then share the results with all
members rather than each provider having to do it on their own.

This and many similar items are among the associations planned
structure.
