I'm working on a Windows based screen pop utility and I need to know how
consistent the caller ID is provided by the Asterisk manager interface.

We need to be able to parse the caller ID and pass a "clean" form of it
to an application, i.e. 10 digits without punctuation. To do that we
need to know how varied the format is and what we can expect it to be.

On our asterisk system we see caller ID like "Caller Name" <5198831172>.

So here is what I'm wondering:

1. Does asterisk provide any formatting? Can we expect that we will
always see the name in quotes and the phone number enclosed in "< >"?

2. Is the number always 10 digits? Can it be 11, or 7? (assuming that
it's not an extension.)

Thanks,
