You would need a cisco router that supports voice your current router is
most likley not going to cut it, I would suggest using a digium or
sangoma t1 card and have it do the data and voice, you could set it up
to throttle channels for bandwidth according to idle lines that way. You
could also set up some more serious routing and monitoring on a linux
platform that would probably best the cisco provided by your isp :)
If you have anymore questions let me know :)

Hello Everyone,
My apologies if this is a bit FAQ but I’d greatly appreciate any
pointer….Sorry, I could not find anything while googling…MayB I’m not
good at it.
Please excuse my immature questions…I’m just new
Here’s the question:
My friend and I have a T1 line we currently use for web hosting only.
Bell told us it’s Data and Voice enabled.
We would know set up both Asterisk and our Proliant Web server share
this T1.
This is our current network diagram
T1 è Cisco Router è Switch è web server
We want to have this
T1 è Cisco Router è Switch èweb server
èAsterisk box
Is this feasible? Would the Asterisk box appropriately recognize the
incoming voice traffic?
If the above is possible, do we need to purchase anything else, apart
from Digium or Sangoma T1 Card?
We’re not just sure if we will need to lease any lines from the Telco
or having a Voice/Data T1 is all we need on that front.
Thanks all for your help and pointers…and again, please excuse my
newness to this…
Warmest Regards,
Claudius
