Thanks all for your response. Greatly appreciated!

Reza - Currently I have set up scenario #1; meaning I subscribed thru a VoIP
provider and using my Ethernet connection, I process my calls that way. This is
going thru a standard Broadband connection.

But what I'm looking for is Scenario #2.

Let's say I want to use 50% of our 1.544Mbps allocated by the Telco on the T1
...50% for my Voice calls thru a Digium or Sangoma card and the other 50% to
continue servicing our web server.

>From the logic, you presented herein, my asterisk box will end up with
>approximately 12 channels in Telco language.

>From having to set up Scenario#1, I know it takes me an Asterisk box, a
>Network card, and IP address, Internet Access and best of all, a subscription
>to a VoIP providers supporting BYOD such as Unlimited, broadvoice and etc.

Then to set up, scenario#2, I understand that some prerequisites needs to get
in the play such as a Digium or Sangoma card.....then I'm kinda not sure if I'd
be require subscription from let's say the Telco.

Here's what I'm thinking (for scenario#2)..mayB I'm wrong...please advise:

-Asterisk box
-Digium or Sangoma crd (single T1 to start with)
-plug my box to my switch, which is connected to my Cisco router with CSU
capabilities (thanks to David Cook for this one, I had no idea of such term or
concept) which is then connected to the Telco T1

What I want to accomplish (mayB with misconception)

-Be able to make Long Distance phone calls across North America thru the T1 line
-Be able to route my already existent incoming DID with DIDx for example to my
Asterisk box and dispatch to appropriate extension (as I currently do w/ my
current configuration Scenario#1)

My grey areas are:
-Provided the above Scenario#2, do I still need to pay Unlimited 0.01 a minute
for example on each of these cases?
- Or do I pay my T1 provider a certain extra fee per month for using the T1
line of phone calls?

-or do I still subscribe to Telasip Express for their 15 bux a month unlimited
calling to North America?

And again, thanks all for your response and help.....this is greatly
appreciated!

Warmest Regards,

Claudius

Hello Claudius:

Philip's response was based on the assumption that you are going to use your T1
as a "T1 Trunk" for voice/phone services from Bell. Your regular T1 transmits
and receives at 1.544 Mb/s. Strictly speaking the telco language, the T1 is
capable of 24 voice circuits, that is "channels". Assuming you had your T1
strictly for voice/phone services, you could technically have a total of 24
incoming and/or outgoing calls.

So Philip is correct assuming you are trying to use a combination of both Data
service & Voice service through your T1.

Now here is the beauty. Your:

        T1 ==> Cisco Router ==> Switch ==>web server
                                                    ==>Asterisk box

technically speaking IS possible... using your current Cisco Router...
assuming that you will use your Asterisk box as a 100% VOIP server. This
would mean that you are subscribing to VOIP service through some VOIP provider
like Unlimitel.

To make things simple, get yourself another IP address & configure your Cisco
router appropriately, so that your Asterisk box can use a free IP.

If you don't want to use your Asterisk box as a true 100% VOIP server, but wish
to process voice services from Bell directly, then you would of course need a
T1 card from Sangoma or Digium.

Hope this sheds some light from two different perspectives.

Cheers!
