Bob,
I've had many battles with DTMF transmission, I use automated dialing
which upon completion of the call requires 10-28 dtmf digits to be sent
down the wire. There are a bunch of variables that come into play:
- What codec are you using ( more issues w 729 )
- who is doing your termination ( inband, outband )
- where is the end termination destination and in turn who is last
mile provider ( many headaches into AB & NB )
- what are your dtmf settings all along the way. Phone, ATA, Asterisk.
I ran into issues with any carrier that was using MCI to get into
Alberta and New Brunswick. Not sure who MCI is using in those markets
but I also had the same issue with Vonage into Alberta but not NB. Also
had some spotty issues in 519 ( Sarnia was where I was calling ).
Presently using Voxee with no DTMF issues to anywhere. I'm using Polycom
phones and Sipura 2000's & pap2's I've got all configure with DTMF as
auto, both on the device and in my asterisk box. In the US and 416 I
have no issue with 729 but those other markets it would just not work on
the carriers I was using. By mainly using 711 and finding a reliable
carrier with the right partner for termination I now have no issues.
Hope this helps a bit?
