Blaine, Chad, and jp thanks for the tips. I just put a # infront the single line in the .conf file and it worked like a charm. If I get some free time I will check the logs to see if my hard disk is dieing or not (Hopefully thats not the case as I just bought it).

smartd uses the smart technology on the hard drives to monitor for failure.  On the VMWARE machine the drive was most likely mounted as SDA1 or some such thing (sata/scsi which isn't supported by smartd).  On the IBM you most likely have SCSI or IDE (IDE I'm assuming) and if SMART monitoring is enabled in the bios it should pass with a OK no problem.  Could you elaborate on that a bit?

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't hurt anything to disable it, but I'll let someone else give that advice.
