Paul,

Further to Graham's comment. Aastra is a Canadian company, located in
Concord. They've loaned a few phones to the TAUG group to try out.
I'm administering a kind of demo pool on behalf of the group.

I haven't had a chance to properly announce it in the mailing list yet
or get it fully organized but none the less, I have a couple of Aastra
phones if you'd like to try them out and return them to me at the next
meeting or drop them off.

I put a few out at the last couple of meetings and all the feedback
I've had so far has been positive. I've used them at a couple of
customers and I've found them to be very reliable. One of the people
who tried one out tested the Busy Lamp feature and found that it
worked well. That's not a unique feature to Aastra but it's
attractive for people who are used to the Norstar and other key
systems.

Email me if you'd like to test one out for a couple of weeks.

As Simon said, you can post to the BIZ list and you'll get lots of
info on pricing and such from people there.

I need a bunch (about 12) of handsets for an office installation. I don't
want to pay huge amounts of money, but I also don't want to buy junk. I'm
a newcomer to Toronto (to Canada, in fact), so I don't know who to talk to
for equipment.

I'm after SIP or IAX over 100Mbps ether, with dial RJ-45 interfaces; one-
or two-line display (more would be nice, but not essential) that I can get
to from Asterisk somehome (they're in a shared environment, so I want to
display both caller- and callee-ID info).

The Boss [tm] and The Front Desk [tm] both want big displays, lots of
lights and buttons, stuff to make them feel important :-).

Finally, The Boss would like a wireless handset that anyone who wants to
cop a fag can take outside with them. Either voip->wireless or
802.11->voip.

Any recommendations? Anything to avoid at all costs? Any suppliers with
decent prices? Any VoIP shoppes in Toronto that The Boss can visit with
his friend Mr Amex to pick out the right phone for himself?

I'm *also* looking for a decent 1U rachmount box to drive all of this. I'm
currently leaning towards Dell (yetch), as they make it not-too-difficult
to find out specs and price, and to actually buy. Any recommendations
about suppliers who want to sell, rather than asking for *me* to (a) give
them all my details, including the last 3 blood tests, (b) spec the machine
down to component level, and (c) still not give a price? Oh, and who have
decent hardware, with support for hot-swap SATA drives, power supplies, etc
:-).

Any advice most gratefully appreciated by a newcomer to this fair city.
