That sounds a bit kludgy if you ask me.

The odd thing about analog DIDs is that the CPE provides the battery
voltage, whereas usually the CO provides battery. So, electrically speaking,
an analog DID is in many ways an FXS that does not provide dial tone. Not
sure if the CO will care if there is dial tone on the line or not, and not
sure what Asterisk will do with it, but if some experimenting can be done,
it could deilver a less-kludgy solution.

Nothing like being a trail-blazer, huh?

Subject: [on-asterisk] DID lines for Asterisk!

Wow, I haven't heard too much about Digium card problems. Interesting....
Comments guys?

In the meantime, I finally found a card that will convert DID trunk lines to
loopstart. The VP_2000 from CTPX looks like it will do the job. Since I
haven't heard any discussion from management, and I will probably be
expected to come up with a solution, even though I don't have time to do
one, I thought I would check this out. It passes the DID digits to the
loopstart side of the card (Handles two lines per card). You can put it in a
half-dead PC with a good PS and ISA slots and it still works.

Anyone else check this out yet? I have the feeling that this is the only
kind of solution that will fly with our organization. If its cheap, its
probably the way to go you know....ya right.
