Jag,
My asterisk boxes only go down if I reboot them (rare) or there is an
act of God ( power out longer then UPS's run ). My main box has been
rebooted I think 3 times in last 10 months, the other a bit more often
due to power supply issues to the office. But if you have everything
configured properly and running on appropriate hardware it is VERY
stable and reliable.
I would do as you are thinking, and build an other one,I have found that
every time build a new one I learn something, whether it be hardware
support or different configurations. I learned a lot doing multiple
builds, from different ISO's and from scratch. Also if you have the
hardware you can do multiple machines and create a great test
environment. Or use VMware to build a bunch of virtual test machines.

Hi all,
First I would just like to appologize about the formatting of the
emails I sent previously, Simon let me know the formating was all
screwed up. I will innocently blame Microsoft's hotmail on it :) and
secondly I would just like to thank everyone for all the advice given
while I was setting up my first box.
One major concern that I have with Asterisk right now is I personally
do not feel comfortable when it is up and running that it stays that
way. I have had issues where the line stayed busy all day so no one
could call me, or calls hanging up on me. Now every morning I get up
and first thing is call the box to make sure its up and running. Is my
concern about asterisk not acting up a concern that many have, or
maybe I am unique and its just the way I set it up.
I also run in regular asterisk mode, I recall Philip mentioning to run
it in safe_asterisk mode, is that better and standard practice? And
one last thing, I also have read in many places that individuals
restart asterisk every night. Is that something that many here do?
I would just like to get your feedback on this, I still feel that
Asterisk is a one of a kind application with unlimited potential and I
have just scraped its surface. Maybe its time I recreate another box,
now with all the knowledge I have obtained it would handle better......
