Nowhere in that article is there any mention of what sort of server is
needed to realize the HD audio.

Can the HD audio be realized even by using asterisk? Somehow I doubt it, but
I could be wrong.

If HD voice is reproduced on one end, it has to be captured in a similar or
same format, which would mean another HD audio capable phone on the other
end...
