First IAX and SIP are not codec's they are protocols,

Second asterisk will automatically do codec transcoding for you if you
have the codec's installed (and licensing in the case of g729)

If you use sip for incoming just set your outgoing dial patterns to use
your iax provider and asterisk will do the rest unless you have a broken
build or for some reason do not have iax2 in your version of asterisk.

Subject: [on-asterisk] How to do codec transformation in asterisk 1.4

Hi there,

Please , Can any one help me out to find out how to do CODEC
transformation.

I would like to know that how can I transform IAX codec to SIP .

Where should I change it.

My scenario is some thing like this.

I would like to configure asterisk server in such away that when call
comes in to the server with SIP signaling and when it goes out it should
use IAX signaling because my voip minutes provider supports only IAX
signaling.

So how can I configure my asterisk server in this manner so I can do
codec transformation.

Please guide me because I am very basic user of asterisk so please help
me in some what detail so I can understand better.

Any kind of help will be appreciated.

Best regards,

Nishith Patel
