Just wondering if anyone has any experience with using Asterisk and
Mitel 5220 phones.
According to voip-info.org, they should work if they are the right
models, but I'm curious if anyone has used them before and in particular
what loss of functionality one may see (paging, etc). Any hints and tips
also appreciated.
I have a Mitel 5220 phone here, and it works great. I'm not a big fan
of the handset (it's too small to lean up against your shoulder) but
it seems to work well. I haven't tried any of the fancy features on
it, but I can tell you it was a breeze to get setup via the web GUI on
it. It took me a bit to figure out how to get multiple lines
registered and working, because it wasn't intuitive.
Basically if you go to Key Programming, then select a key (after
you've created multiple registrations in the User List Config), then
you can program a key for another registration. You select the key,
then set Feature: to Shared Line (counter intuitive since there are
Line1 - Line4 which have to be associated with the primary
registration). Then you can select a separate registration. I have not
figured out how many you can do (there are 14 keys... so maybe 14
separate registrations?).
But they work. Transfers work. Calling in and out works. Other than
that, that's about all I've used it for (it's a lab phone I use here
at home, but haven't used anything fancy on it).
Thanks for the feedback - unfortunately the client has 5220's but they
do not appear to be Dual mode and so won't work with Asterisk.
Wouldn't it be great if companies stuck with the same configuration for
the same model number...
