Julian,

I am sure there is a better way of doing this, but I have tried this and it
works. If you have trixbox, I believe they have a built in functionality for
this from what I am told anyways

visit the following link:

http://www.localcallingguide.com/lca_prefix.php?npa=905
<http://www.localcallingguide.com/lca_prefix.php?npa=905&nxx=333&x=&ocn=&reg
ion=&lata=&switch=&pastdays=0&nextdays=0>
&nxx=333&x=&ocn=&region=&lata=&switch=&pastdays=0&nextdays=0

in the NPA type in your area code for eg 905 and in the NXX type in an
exchange # such as 333 hit the submit button, it gives you a listing of all
the other exchanges you can call without incurring any ld charges....

its a crude way of determining what is a local call for you, this way you
can then copy and modify the list into * and configure asterisk to
intelligently dial the appropriate trunk based on the number you are trying
to call...

Hope this helps.

Elliott

Subject: [on-asterisk] 416 to 905 long distance

Hello,

I've got a Toronto specific Asterisk question:

The idea is to have asterisk use the PSTN for local calls and voip lines
for long distance. The trouble being that a 905 call will either be local to
Mississauga or long distance to Hamilton (for example). So is there any way
to tell if a call will be long distance before making the call?

Thanks,

Julian.
