You will want to quantify for your own needs what 'better' means. AsteriskNow does look like an interesting project/product but it depends what your goals are. If you want to deploy an Asterisk appliance-like system it certainly is appealing: getting integrated hardware, Digium tested kernels, patches, etc. If, on the other hand, you want to add on some additional packages to your Asterisk installation, it may not be the best choice. By Digium's own mouth, AsteriskNow is not currently as feature-rich as some of the other gui projects.
AsteriskNow has a nice gui but it is not as complete as, say, freepbx. On the other hand the AsteriskNow GUI simply manages your existing configuration files, potentially making it a simple matter to maintain consistancy between GUI initiated changes and file edit changes. (Although frankly it is not hard at all doing that with freepbx once you understand the way the extra _custom files are laid out). As to FreeBSD vs Linux, well, let's just say that they both have earned their place in the hallowed halls of Unixdom but, personally, I'm a Linux guy. Would the asterisknow platform be a better chioce?
