Hello Andrew! Really nice to hear from you. I hope by Tuesday most folks will be back in town and will be able to add value to your insight. Yes, the CDR do not cut it :). It was a trick question/suggestion ... and am very glad that someone did their home work :).
As you have pointed out - the SQL codes can get pretty nasty. I had written a VERY small script once upon a time to update channel info into a flat file, which can easily be taken into a SQL based application. But that was pretty rudimentary. However -- from the entire concept, I see the MOST accurate, and probably **THE** accurate info on channels/trunks can be obtained from the AMI. This way we can pass real time info & communicate with a desktop app via secure tunnels to obtain info from AMI (port 5038). Note that we are talking about **Real Time Info**. All the info we need at a particular instance of time is already stored in the CDRs - but that is technically the information from the "past" -- which we can use and analyze to our hearts delight. So unless someone has already written an open source/GPLed version of something that I need, then excellent... and if its out there - I hope someone will post a message to our thread :). If not, we have to invent the wheel here :). But you are right... so many projects, so little time... and in this case -- this little app, at least for me is getting mission critical as more services are being added for clients on our Asterisk. We need something to absolutely monitor channel usage at a given time. I suspect this would be beneficial to others in the Asterisk VOIP sector as well. " > First your newborn, and now this... Your sanity is in grave danger. " Hmmm... I thought I lost my sanity already! It takes an insane person to manage 2 client projects, 3 presentations, and 2 trips to the US, and 1 trip out of the continent, all in the month of July :). But yes, I'm crazy already ;). Cheers!
