[on-asterisk] codec selection via dialplan

Im having an issue with selecting codec on the dialplan, I know this was 
doable way back in the day on 1.0.x version

im running 1.2 and ive tried
SetVar(SIP_CODEC=gsm)
and
Set(SIP_CODEC=gsm)

Does anyone know if this was removed or has been changed to a different 
Var?
