I did something similar once. Now I didn't have the app call home, but
what I did was alter the config file after installation.
I used spoon installer (is on sourceforge) which is a powerful
opensource install scripting app. I used spoon to launch the softphone
install (which was embedded inside the spoon installer) , then shut down
the voip app. Next I wrote a simple program, which the spoon installer
launched that took input ( extension/password ) from the user, and
altered the conf file. It then restarted the voip app.
Now this was 3 years ago and I used diax. Today if I needed to do this I
would do the same thing but use Zoiper.
Only issue is if the User mistypes their info.
Unfortunately I don't have the project source for this anymore, and it
wouldn't work with the Zoiper since when I did this the config file was
straight key/value pairs and Zoiper uses an XML file format. But you
should be able to whip up the config editor pretty easily, or if your
not up to it, you could get someone to do it for you on rent-a-coder
very quickly and inexpensively.
