See... that's the exact reason I do NOT like hardware RAID.  if my motherboard 
explodes I need to have a compatible controller card or my RAID may as well 
have exploded as well.  I do not find any appreciable performance hit with 
software RAID, but I generally only use RAID1 anyway.

I really like the idea of hardware-independent RAID; I'm not at the mercy of 
any particular vendor, and I don't have to keep spare RAID cards stocked.
