Just be very wary that Rogers is throttling bandwidth on encrypted
connections (or basically any packet where they can't examine/classify
the header). If you do site-to-site encrypted, for example, you may very
well end up with 100k of that 10MB connection.

Subject: [on-asterisk] Cable vs DSL

This is much like asking how long is a piece of string.
I have Roger Extream here at home (10 meg down - 1 meg up)
It look a lot of fighting with Rogers over a two week period
to get this speed but it has been working fine for about one year
now. As with all cable service it, will fluctuate depending on other
local users
but in my experience it still works pretty well even in high traffic
times.
To test the connection I use
<http://www.voipreview.org/voipspeedtester.aspx>

Most of my clients have DSL, which IMHO always needs checking both at
installation and
anytime the client has strange and wierd problems.
If the equipement is located at the other limits of the exchange (two
miles or more) then the connection
often has poor bandwidth and low reliability and connectivity.
What will pass for acceptable analog phone service on a given line is
often a very poor
for DSL services.
It may require that Bell find another circuit back to the telephone
exchange or in
cases where there are no line(s) to to begin with, use a "Dry Loop".
This is a DSL line with no analog line
component.
This is a good solution if the cable company don't want to install their
cable or want
some unbelievable amount to install it. ie. $10,000.

Hope this helps
Merry Xmas
