Well, the problem I'm working on is dealing with phones moving between
(public networks talking to a registrar on a private network) and
(private networks which may or may not be using a dns server I control).
It's a bit of a trick to get multiple vendors phones to behave the same
when some support explicit backup registrars, and others only via DNS SRV
*Cough Linksys*.
snom is also turning out to be one of my least faviourites. A lot of
config options, but not the ones I want.
Actually, none of them are my favourite. It would be nice if they all
shared a common runtime, like Android.

Simon, sorry this is not an answer to our question and I'm sure you are
probably already aware of this but another strategy would be to use DNS
SRV records. Not 100% sure if the 480i supports this but the newer
Aastra phones do.
