Bruce,
I have about 10 Australian DID's that I got through didx, but they have
a very limited selection. Here is a link that might give you a better
assortment of AU providers http://www.ozinternetphones.com/ . In the
area of latency I don't really have any issue on the inbound, with the
exception of say calls from China to the AU numbers, but who knows where
that latency is showing up from.
Now on the outbound I did find when using my North American termination
providers that latency to South Pacific / Oceana countries unreliable
and usually connect times range wildly, one minute call Kuala Lumpur and
it would take 4 seconds to connect then dial 10 minutes later to the
same number and it would take almost 2 minutes to connect, drove me crazy.
Some one on the list suggested PennyTel, an Australian termination
company and I find latency very good to acceptable and connect times are
much more consistent. And to top it off their rates were in some cases
half of what I was paying to my NA termination provider. They have
equipment in Sydney, but also in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong
so they have good presence.
Hope that helps a bit.

:) Thanks for the reminder Dave. I will post this in the biz list. I guess I
left it out, but I was also interested to know if latency plays a role in case
of Australian providers. I believe we don't have any Canadian providers that
provide Australian DIDs. I think that is where it was fuzzy for me as to where
to pose the question.

Looking for a solid quality Australian DID/VoIP provider which allows CLI

Quality is important. Anyone you recommand?
Bruce,
I'm sure it was an honest mistake, because I'm pretty sure you
subscribe to the taug-biz list, but this is just a friendly reminder
that "where do I buy" questions, business opportunities, etc belong on
the biz list. The main discussion list (this one) is intended for
technical discussions like "How do I" and group announcements.
This will benefit you too because I know there are people who
subscribe to the biz list only because they're watching for posts like
yours but don't want to get bogged down in the higher volume of
technical discussions on this list.
If anyone is interested in more info, please see taug.ca/discuss.
All the best,
Dave Donovan
