*Hello Andre: *It is understood that from an RPM or some sort of ready made asterisk distribution, is not a true test of knowledge. In my humble opinion have the candidate install Asterisk & Modules from source codes. Compiling Asterisk & Modules from scratch/source codes (without looking at reference materials) -- demonstrates a certain level of competency.
Though my friend Dave expresses there is some merit in written tests - and though I tend to agree with him - I respectfully and humbly beg to differ *in this case*, if the candidate can demonstrate the above competency. Takes no more than an hour... maximum two hours, for a true Asterisk specialist to deploy everything from scratch via source code compilation, including install a flavor of Linux and write some dial plans and configure one phone. During all past public speaking opportunities, we've installed asterisk from scratch via source code compiling, including writing some dial plans & configuring two phones, in under 30 minutes. *It IS possible*. To be able to "*effectively troubleshoot SIP peers, IAX trunks, POTS issues, PRI issues, plus configuring the customer dialplan and specific requirements and providing over the phone technical support when he is in the office*" -- you are looking for an avid and experienced Asterisk Administrator who has excellent communication skills, with some solid and excellent references of past work. If you come across such a candidate and you feel his/her personality is not a fit - pass on the candidate over to me as we have an urgent need to find an admin for one of our contacts. *Cheers!
