Even in small offices I always have 1 standard PSTN line for alarms/fax/modem and emergency 911. I just can't in good conscience rely entirely on voip (maybe I'm getting old).
I fought too long in old versions of asterisk getting a real fax/modem connection working reliable via VOIP, for inbound the IAX modem and hylafax works great and for outbound through hylafax to our main office and then out via PRI no problem. I have had better luck using Sangoma cards with echo cancelation. But all I need is one user to have a fax failure and I get yelled at.
