Ok, here is the resolution, just so others know. the system is in isolation. No internet connection.
The asterisk box is running DNS and DHCP. All phones are aastra and using PSTN lines through sangoma cards. The issue is the timeout for the DNS and DHCP. it takes until the DNS stops hunting for the registration of the phones to correctly register. So, I just need to put the external request to the local IP and this should speed things up. Input would be appreciated!
