My fiancées family business is moving buildings and I'm installing a new phone system for them based on Asterisk. Unfortunately I just found out there is absolutely no line connectivity in their area (which is crazy, it's a business area in Etobicoke, just on the south side of Browns Line and Evans...). Anyways, they are with TeraGo networks and have the wireless system setup. They have been using it already as they are moving just to the building beside where they are now. There is a tower on top of the building, and I was just there the other day and hooked up my Polycom IP335 and use G722 across their connection to my PBX located at Q9.
A single call during business hours was fine. They have a 1.5Mbps up/down connection and a 60GB plan per month that they never go over. I'm curious if anyone has used the wifi network for VoIP like this? We'll be leaving 2-3 landlines for 911, fax, creditcard machine and backup lines in case the network is down. They currently have about 6 lines, with 5 used for voice right now. They would ideally like to be able to handle up to 10 simultaneous calls. >From my calculations of G.711 (64kbps) + overhead (about 24kbps) = 88kbps per call, multiplied by 10 is 880kbps on a 1500kbps line, so bandwidth isn't a huge issue. I'd further reduce that with G.729 to get 8kbps + 24kbps * 10 = 320kbps. However, my concerns stem from latency, jitter, and dropped packets. I'll be going on site to do some testing, but experiences and thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks!
