As I write some days ago,
I tried this, after flashing th CF with the new image from buildroot:
grub> device (hd0) /dev/sda
grub> root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
grub> setup (hd0)
Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes
Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes
Checking if "/boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes
Running "embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0)"... 16 sectors are
embedded.
succeeded
Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0)1+16 p
(hd0,0)/boot/grub/stage2 /boot/grub/grub.conf"... succeeded
Done.
It hangs on soekris and grub doesn't works but I noticed it works on a
Via Epia machine!!
It's very odd!

This is what we need! The image will need to be fixed up a little
(symlinks, permission fixes, etc) but we need to create an actual
CF/disk image and install GRUB on it. We can then place the files from
build_i586/root in it.
