Anybody care to throw in their two cents?

I do as the instructions say on astlinux.org for getting the
development environment ready and I was hoping to try this soon. So, I
got the subversion and i can't make. It get's stuck at can't find
fakeroot on ftp.debian.org. Should I be using a different machine to
do this on or what? If there is another distro that would be much
better suited for this then I'm all ears.
