I just today downloaded and installed the 0.4.2
version. First impression is that it is a bit of a trial to get Astlinux
working, but once it’s up, it seems to run very well and works as advertised.
Luckily I have some modest understanding of “from scratch” Asterisk
from a few years back. Must admit to being a bit spoiled by the GUI guys
though. My hardware is a Lex Neo box (very small mini-ITX w/CF
card). It has a Via C3 @ 1GHz and 256MB RAM. I am using a 256MB CF
card as the secondary master IDE interface. Have it using the CF card for
root, opt and kd using hdc1, hdc2 and hdc3. Had never had to mess with
the grub.conf file but once I figured out how to edit it, was able to get
everything booting up and working fine. Asterisk at this point works very
well though I am still learning how to manually edit all the various Asterisk
conf files. The Lex Neo box has three (3) Realtek 10/100 NIC’s in
it. Once I get the hang of managing the Asterisk PBX portion of AstLinux,
I hope to try and figure out how to configure the firewall features to
work. For the time being I am running it in PBX only mode with only one
NIC active. This brings me to my question for the list. I could
sure use some guidance from anyone out there who has been down this path on how
to get the firewall working. I normally use m0n0wall or ipcop and am
insulated from the subtleties. I would really appreciate it if any one
out there would send me their “recipe” to use as examples. This is my setup. I have a Cable modem with a single dynamic IP address.
Have DynDNS already setup and working with my dime store This is what I want to do. I need to have my Asterisk server here at my home, connect
to an Asterisk server at my office. They will share dial plans and my
intent is to have an “Off Premises Extension” of the office here at
home. Normally, I would do this with an IPSEC VPN and a lot of Asterisk
tweaking. However, I will be putting a new firewall in at the office in
the near term so I have the freedom to use OpenVPN if the rewards outweigh the
costs. Would love to hear arguments either way. This is what I hope to get from you. I know that what I want to do has been done a thousand times
before. I am hoping that someone out there who has already beat their
head up against this wall might have pity on me and either send me chunks of
relevant configuration code or maybe point at a good source document. I
have Google’d until I am nearly blind. Am hoping to find a clearer
set of eyes. Can send to me off-list at
ghendershot”at”cox”dot”net. Would sure
appreciate it. Thanks G.Hendershot |
