Another speed comparison,

Using the UNIX shell in Mac OS X,
I cloned my 512MB CF card in my Soekris using: (after making all  
partitions 'ro')
# ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED] "dd if=/dev/hda; sync" >cf.image

Using 0.3.0 the transfer rate is about 20MB/minute, requiring 25  
minutes for the card.

Using 0.4.2 the transfer rate is about 40MB/minute, requiring 12  
minutes for the card.

That is worth the price of admission.
