All,
I received the new Rhino R4FXO card
last week. The card was installed in a small form factor VIA EPIA
Nehemiah with 1GHz cpu motherboard. I have been very interested in
this card based on it's specifications, small form factor and price
point.
In addition this card offers the option of
an echo cancellation module. The echo cancellation module is
a daughtercard based on the Octasic echo cancellation chip ( http://www.octasic.com/en/tech/echo_cancel.php
). I have not ordered or tested the echo can module at this time, but
like the fact that the option is available if PSTN connectivity circumstances
call for it.
The card came packaged with nice product manual and
driver CD. After sliding the card into the riser card in my
chassis I began the process of creating a new AstLinux image with Rhino
support turned on. I used the 0.4.3 development branch that offered
Asterisk 1.2.10 and Zaptel 1.2.7. This was fine because the current driver
release with zaptel patch is based on Zaptel 1.2.7.
After spending several hours downloading and fixing
several broken package dependency links I had a completed image. I then
wrote the image to my CF card and proceeded to boot the unit. After
editing my Zaptel.conf, and Zapata.conf files to appropriately work with this
new card, I did a "modprobe zaptel" then "modprobe r4fxo" followed by
a "ztcfg". I also updated the rc.conf file in the zaptel section to
initialize the "r4fxo" module at startup.
The card loaded with out a hitch. I connected
it to another test asterisk system I have with a Digium TDM400 card and
proceeded to make several TDM calls into the new system. The sound
quality as I would expect in my lab environment was excellent. I have not
begun to test other aspects of the card or multiple calls to load the
system, but thus far am impressed with this product. I will attempt
to post more info regarding this configuration as I complete some more
testing.
Thanks.
Larry
