Thanks for your suggestions; I will try the usbnet driver.

I had tried following Kristian's idea with the loading of the 'asix' to the
/etc/rc.modules file per his suggestion. I also noticed on another machine
that this is in fact the driver that is loaded for the module.

This would be a great solution for all of us with machines with on nic card
and no pci slots to add one.

I have not been able to find one of the Netgear dongles to play with.  Seems
they are out of production.

After doing some reading, what happens if you modprobe usbnet? (or add
usbnet to rc.modules)
