Paul,
I gave it a quick try.  Firefox is prompting me with a message readn
"Additional plugins are required to  display all the media on this page".
When I press the  "install missing  plugins" button, I'm told "no suitable
plugins were found".

I'm running firefox 1.5.0.7.

My voicemail is in .wav format.  They play fine when I download them from my
gmail account.

From this, I'm assuming you're trying to play a voicemail.  The plugin it's looking for is the quicktime plugin (under firefox)- which should be found and installed, and has on every version ( 1.5 included) I've tested.  Are you running firefox on Windows, or on Linux?  (Linux/X is completely untested at this point- in the category of 'it should work').  It's also possible that your mimetypes for 'application/x-wav' are off somehow.  Give it a shot under IE, and see if it plays there- under IE, it uses some sort of embedded (and not so great looking) windows media player control.
