For those of us in the United States, you are probably aware that the brain trust in Congress has added three weeks to daylight savings time, starting in 2007.

Below are AstLinux related changes as I see them... please comment if I have anything incorrect.

--- zoneinfo binaries ----
Sources for Time Zone and Daylight Saving Time Data, can be found here:

The main data directory is here:

The current, TZ data is here:

I am using Mac OS 10.4.8, but any good UNIX should work.  In order to generate the new US zoneinfo binaries using tzdata2006o.tar.gz in a temporary directory:
$ tar xzvf tzdata2006o.tar.gz northamerica
$ zic -d zoneinfo northamerica

The temporary "zoneinfo" directory now contains the new files that should overwrite the same files in "/usr/share/zoneinfo/" on your AstLinux installation.  These files can be tar'ed together via (the DS_Store stuff is for Mac OS X users):
$ tar --exclude=.DS_Store --no-anchored -cvzf zoneinfo.tar.gz zoneinfo

Then, simply copy the the zoneinfo.tar.gz file to your AstLinux "/usr/share" folder (after making '/' writeable) and
$ tar xzvf zoneinfo.tar.gz

--- rc.conf setting ----
The rc.conf file variable TZ_TIMEZONE needs a few trailing arguments to adapt to the new DST settings.  For me in the Central timezone (-6 GMT) the setting is:

##Timezone
TIMEZONE=America/Chicago
TZ_TIMEZONE=CST6CDT,M3.2.0/2,M11.1.0/2

Other users simply change the "Chicago" and the "CST6CDT" with your area.

--- Sipura/Linksys SPA rule ----

For those of you that have Linksys/Sipura IP Phone and ATA's, the new DST rule is:
start=3/8/7/2:0:0;end=11/1/7/2:0:0;save=1

The XML provisioning is:
  <Daylight_Saving_Time_Rule        ua="na"> start=3/8/7/2:0:0;end=11/1/7/2:0:0;save=1
  </Daylight_Saving_Time_Rule>

Hope this is useful.

Lonnie
