The reason Digium's TDM cards have such difficulty with low-powered platforms such as the WRAP is the way they designed the communications interface. A TDM card requires far more CPU horsepower to move the audio back and forth for four channels than a single T1 card (to move on byte to the slic part, it takes over 30 "set clock bit", "set data bit", "reset clock bit" operations, acting serially for every channel on the card; T1 is communicating with just one part, one stream holding all the channels at once); it has nothing to do with an "onboard dsp". For this reason, we at Rhino are designing our TDM cards to act like T1 cards. These cards are not yet released I'm sorry to say, but when they are I will be getting them into the AstLinux tree as soon as I can. I'm not familiar with Sangoma's methodologies. P.S. Before anyone jumps on me for being biased and trying to sell my company on here - Yes, I work at Rhino, and I maintain the Rhino support in AstLinux (when I have time), and this message is simply explaining why Digium TDM hardware sucks.
