I checked and they are all there. I have the EST5EDT item also. I made the one change to my system, defining TZ_TIMEZONE or TIMEZONE_TZ and only one worked properly. I see that my definition includes the file referenced above. EST5EDT is in the /usr/share/zoneinfo directory.

Since 0.4.3, the zoneinfo files are included in AstLinux.
Yes, they have to be there for asterisk to tell time properly.
I have an earlier post about "US 2007 Daylight Savings Time" a couple weeks back explaining how to generate your own zoneinfo files.

Wow! I tried both ways and found that TIMEZONE_TZ does not work and TZ_TIMEZONE does work. Now I have it really correct and all is working fine now. There you have it, get the correct way entered and all will work better for you. Rich | | Rich,
For New York, you rc.conf should contain...
##Timezone TIMEZONE=America/New_York TZ_TIMEZONE=EST5EDT,M3.2.0/2,M11.1.0/2
The DST settings are for 2007, which are valid now.

PS: Note the '_' in the New_York How do I set all the parts so all times and commands using time use the same time and NOT UTC time.
system: astlinux zone eastern daylight: lst sun Mar to lst sun Oct
I have America/NewYork in TIMEZONE_TZ There is a TZ directory
typing "date" at linux prompts shows my current time but says EDT. Today is Nov 16 and it is now EST.
Using the GoToIf() condition seems to compare to UTC time not Eastern time.
I've googled lists.kriscompanies.org and followed all the advice for setting up time/ timezones. Seems I only got a partial fix after all.
I desire a summary of how to take astlinux (bare) to have settings for Eastern time zone and no operations to find UTC.
