I think it was the power supply gone bad.

It started later today just restarting when I wanted to make a call.

Now a new power supply is in place and we'll see how it works out.

Been running this soekris and astlinux (with existing power supply) for 1.2
years now.

The weird thing is that ssh worked fine yesterday.

The device is even a MIP behind my NetScreen and the only port is SIP 5060
with AGL SIP enabled.

I'll have to dig up the cable to go in an see what it says when I log in via
console.

While this may be the cause, there are very few reasons to put 
customized stuff in /stat.  Sometime after 0.4.4 was released I created 
a symbolic link to point to /mnt/kd/custom-sounds if it exists.  Store 
all your customized stuff on the keydisk and you won't have such 
problems.  If your device is running out of space, yes weird things can 
happen.

No such problems.  It's either bad hardware or possibly some other 
change that you implemented.  If you changed nothing software wise, I'd 
look at the hardware including your power source and network devices.
