I had not heard this so you got one on me ... I would like to see them move away from the old berkley db and maybe consider sql-lite or something similar ... But the fact is the old berkley db works, its lean and mean, and in an embedded system where every bit of overhead has to be considered, maybe is the best way to go ...
But I have been monitoring this forum for quite a while and I have not seen any serious discussion of implementing MySQL ... Just the opposite in fact ... I have heard repeatedly that the overhead of such a thing would be counter to the design goals ... But I am not an authority, just a curious user of the product ... I have noticed in the development environment that there is an option to compile the Astlinux package with postgres support ... I do not think that the Asterisk component of Astlinux will by default make any use of this ... but I have never played with it so have no idea if its really a complete implementation or just a client subset ... Many who use this software are running on 233Mhz embedded systems where EVERY clock tick counts ... Those of us with mini itx class machines with stronger CPU's probably would be somewhat more receptive to such an idea if it offered some clear advantage ... But I suspect the typical hardware used for this application is probably 1 GHz or less so any performance hit would be an issue ... And the typical system may have as little as 512mb of total storeage capacity consisting of flash drives ... So for most of us, there just really is not that much in the way of data being maintained other than voicemail ... Even log files are saved to ram and do not typically survive a reboot ... If you were to integrate MySQL into Astlinux, what would the benefit be and what would be the cost in terms of storeage requirements and loss of performance ??? Would your focus be to use some sort of odbc client connection to a secondary data base server ??? I can see some utility in that plan for larger system where the maintenance of CDR might be of value ... That might be an approach that would stay within the basic design goals but would add a significant new functionality ... Dear all, I've read somewhere that their is some work done to integrate MySQL to Astlinux. May I have some news regarding this work ? Maybe I could help. Thank you, Florent. _______________________________________________ Astlinux-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.kriscompanies.com/mailman/listinfo/astlinux-users Donations to support AstLinux are graciously accepted via PayPal to [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ Astlinux-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.kriscompanies.com/mailman/listinfo/astlinux-users Donations to support AstLinux are graciously accepted via PayPal to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
