Hi,

I will give you a little background so you can fully see what I am
trying to do;

We are testing a few Linux distributions; We are deploying an Asterisk
/Cisco 7940 solution in all of our sites. Currently we are trialing it
in two sites with rpath Poundkey distribution and a TDM400P (will be
using IAX2 with a VOIP provider for outbound soon).

The trail is going very well. A few issues we need to work on;
1. Echo for a few seconds at the start of some inbound calls from the
PSTN
2. Sound quality could be improved on calls to/from the PSTN (slight
choppiness on the Cisco phones (perfect on VOIP to VOIP))

In saying the above the quality is acceptable as is; but it has room for
improvement, currently I am testing a Digium B410P ISDN card with
hardware echo can.(we will see if this may help) and Astlinux.

I must say I am very impressed with Astlinux but I have one problem; The
Cisco has no lights to indicate call/busy status (reception would like
to know if the person is on the phone before the call is put through; we
do not do blind transfers) we do not want to use software on the PC to
display the status.

Here is our solution it uses a python script (I did not write it) and
the xml browser capabilities of the Cisco.

Here is how it works/is used;

1. Push the services button the Cisco
2. Calls a python script in the cgi-bin on the Asterisk box
3. This queries Asterisk and gets the status of all extensions
4. Then displays it on the screen on the Cisco it looks like this; my
extension is 313 and I am on an outbound -> call to this number 133933

311
A.Doe
312
B.Smith
313->133933
B.Wilks

*************************************
Here is the python question; can I make Astlinux run this python script?
use another language or do it some other why?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, B.W
