I think there is something like this already but in reverse. If you throw a USB Flash device on a Astlinux configured server and on that USB drive you place the hard address of the new machine in the rc.conf file, Astlinux will come up with that IP address. This assumes you have a USB port, thumb drive and a copy of the rc.conf file.
In a sense, I never need to go into the PC device for 98% of my customization thanks to Kristian's design. -----Original Message----- From: Lonnie Abelbeck [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, December 18, 2006 10:27 AM To: Discussion of AstLinux - Asterisk on Compact Flash Subject: Re: [Astlinux-users] Finding your AstLinux machine Kristian, Personally, I find this "IP-findme" is a non-issue, as I always assign my IP's by MAC address in m0n0wall... but we are not all geeks. I will throw out an idea... If a person shoves a FAT-16 thumb-drive into the USB port a small text file (astlinux-status.txt) could be written to the thumb-drive containing the IP address and other status goodies. I am not sure what automount issues this might present. Maybe m0n0wall could do the same with USB hardware.
