Hi all, I got the same problem with that box, the solution is to use an usb hard-drive, it boots perfectly and you have access to the system. What I have done is to burn the usb HD with the I586 img of astlinux, created a keydisk on a second partition of the HD, copied the I586 img to /mnt/kd.
I have then booted the 3850 with the usb HD and typed : gunzip -c /mnt/kd/AstLinux-0.4.4-i586.img.gz > /dev/hda shutdown the system, remove the usb HD and reboot. That's all folk.
