I am not familiar with the particular hardware you are dealing with ... but
if I understand correctly, you only have ONE IDE interface ... is this
correct ???

I think that the DOC and the IDE are mutually exclusive ... I know on mine,
if I turn on the DOC, I lose my IDE-0 interface ... I still have IDE-1 but
the DOC seems to take the place of IDE-0 ... so if I had both IDE
interfaces, I would maybe connect an IDE CDROM to IDE-1 to get a usable boot
device ... but if I had NO IDE interface once the DOC was enabled, I would
have to rely on a USB boot device ... in my case I use the USB boot device
because I have one and it is convenient ...

if you have another machine that you can use as a donor to burn the DOC,
this also might work ... I have never had to try such but suspect it may
just work ... maybe you have something laying around that has a DOC socket
and TWO IDE interfaces ... burn your img to the DOC on that machine then
move to your target ... this just might work ...

the other thing that might work would be to setup a PXE boot and boot your
thin client off a network boot image ... again, am not sure your machine
supports such a thing ... and this would be a pain in the ass to setup for
such a one time event ... but it is an option to consider if you get backed
into a corner ...

G.

Yes i did see DiskOnChip "enable" in my BIOS.
I guess my problem is that my client doesn't boot from usb, there is no
option in bios "boot from usb" even i tried to boot through usb floppy drive
but it doesn't do anything even boot sequence in bios was set to "A,CDROM,C"
my client is WT8440XL.
Since I'm booting from IDE Hard disk and DOC has no virtual place to come
up as IDE because IDE already taken by hard disk. If i take out Hard disk
and reboot that client it boots up with DOC with (Windows NT) that was came
with DOC OS.

I will read more in hardware manual to see why it is not booting from USB
drive.

On my SBC (Lex), there are jumpers I need to set to make the DOC socket
active ... you might want to have a look at the hardware docs and see if
this is what is keeping you from seeing it ... I have also seen some that
require settings in BIOS to make the DOC socket active ...

In my case, the DOC just shows up as an IDE drive and can be handled using
same methods ... what I have done in past is boot off a USB CDROM (Ultimate
Boot CD) then fdisk the DOC to blow away any existing partitions, then "DD"
the img file to the DOC ... the image was compiled using the build
environment ... this scenario has worked without fail for me since the
Astlinux 2.x days ...

I have used both the M-Systems 2000 DOC and a number of other DOM type
gizmos that are in a package that connects directly to the IDE interface ...

in all cases I treated them the same and got good results ...

Hi,

Any one done Astlinux on DOC? I bought some thin client from ebay, they have
AMD K6/III processor, 128MB RAM, 192MB DOC.
Currently i'm running Astlinux-586 image on this thinclient using IDE, i
tried to fdisk -l to see if i can see DOC that i have but it is not showing,

i bet because astlinux kernel is not compiled to see m-systems 2000 DOC.

Kris are you planning to add DOC support on your astlinux distro? it would
be great for thin clients that boot from IDE and then later dd image to DOC.

Michael,

Thanks for your input. Is your thinclient uses flashdisk card or DiskOnChip?
Moving image to FlashDisk kind of easy through IDE socket but i'm having a
hard time understanding DiskOnChip procedure and i don't know how to move
astlinux to DOC since Astlinux does not see DOC. Do you have any howtos to
do Astlinux on DiskOnChip?
Thanks
