I believe that if you set your asterisk permissions correctly, a SIP
softphone could simply attempt to connect to any extension @ your domain.
So for example [EMAIL PROTECTED] but the extension doesn't even need
to be a number, could be text. You would have to tell asterisk to accept
calls from unauthenticated sources and if you are behind a NAT gateway then
it would need to be setup to forward the appropriate ports to your asterisk
server.

The X-lite softphone will let you enter a destination using this form of
addressing.  But even easier (for your callers, not for you) would be to
create a web page that embedded a SIP phone, probably java-based, then just
put a "click to call me" button on your page. Google search should pick up
some examples.

But why don't you want to register with a SIP provider, like voxalot, and
have your server register with it, and your callers connect through
voxalot?  This would probably be more secure as you would not have to open
up your server to unauthenticated incoming.

As for version... 0.6.1 is about to go golden.
