I personally have been using Industrial DiskOnModule drives (they plug straight into the IDE header on the motherboard)

Something like this (except higher capacity) for a standard 40 pin header...

Of course the ones in those links are pretty expensive, but you can usually find them included inside a thin client (Neoware especially) for pretty cheap.

I actually have a couple extra if anyone is interested. (DOMs as well as thin clients... hint... they make great AstLinux boxes)
