Greetings,There has been some interest in the System tab allowing "Configuration/File Backup" archives to be restored via the same System tab. Personally, I un-archive backups outside of AstLinux to recover previous configurations, but it is quite reasonable to restore at least a portion of the configuration in a friendly manner. My request for comments from users is how a "Configuration Restore" would be used... to clone new system ? fix a screw-up ? etc... And, how should non-/mnt/kd unionfs files be treated? I feel a little uncomfortable restoring these files. And, then there is the archive file size. Currently PHP uses /tmp to temporarily store the uploaded file from the browser, which is limitedto 10MB. Presumably PHP can be configured (php.ini) to upload to / mnt/kd instead to overcome this. So a System tab "Configuration Restore" could... 1) Add a "Restorable" backup type, similar to the current 'core' set, but no non-/mnt/kd unionfs files... and allow a restore of it.2) Allow the current 'core' set to be restored, including any non-/ mnt/kd unionfs files.. and allow a restore of it. 3) Allow any backup to be fully restored, no matter the size, including CDR's Voicemail's, etc. 4) tar and ftp are my friends, I don't need no freaking restore in the web interface. Others? Thanks for your comments... Lonnie
For myself I have two uses which, I think, can be handled by one facility:
Restore all Asterisk, AstLinux and Arno firewall configuration files to the saved state on the same version of AstLinux.
I would use this:1. When experimenting with configuration changes that affect multiple files as a easy and sure way to get back to "ground zero".
2. If an upgrade to a newer AstLinux proved a problem, this would allow me to put a clean image on my CF card and then restore my last working configuration.
It would be nice to be able to save/restore the contents of the Asterisk database. But that is a lower priority issue for me as my CID and blacklist DB are pretty small and I don't use the white list DB at all.
For my self I don't need call records restored nor do I need voice mail saved/restored.
Also, I have a customized crontab and added some housekeeping scripts of my own. But it would be totally unreasonable to have those backed up or restored by a AstLinux general facility. . .
Thanks for asking for input. --Tod
