I prefer keeping as much as possible on /mnt/kd/ and not cluttering-up asturw, so I vote for keeping things as is. It is easier for users to understand that they can edit all they want in /mnt/kd/, but only a few files elsewhere are 'officially' editable. In the past, users have caused themselves problems by editing over existing symlinks.
