Darrick and All,
I'm local to the area and, although my AstLinux expertise is limited to that of
a user, I would be glad to assist in whatever capacity is required. A few
thoughts come to mind:
Logistics: If you're bringing "stuff," and prefer not to carry it as baggage
(and try to explain techno hardware to TSA security), you can ship to my office
and I'll drive it to the convention center. I might even ship it back to you!
Booth Duty: I'm not sure how many folks will be attending and carrying the
AstLinux flag. If only a few, and you wish to attend (or participate in) some
sessions, I'll be glad to shake hands, kiss babies, and tend to the booth from
time to time. Again, I can't speak to the specific, interal workings of
AstLinux, but I can field user questions and serve as a character witness for
this fine effort.
Tour guide: DC is an amazing place. During some down-time, I can show you the
sights. A quick driving tour in an old Mazda won't make Fordor's list of top
activites, but it might be fun. And you can bring home snapshots of memorials
without needing to dedicate an entire day to sightseeing.
Behemoth server: If you like Tom's idea (below) I might be able to help with
some of the hardware. It's not rack-mounted, but do have an old Dell behemoth.
It must weigh a quarter-ton and (amazingly) works quite well after many years
of hard service. The only problem: I'm not sure it'll run AstLinux on it's
SCSI RAID array - and I'd rather not format what's there. And, of course, you
won't have to pay to ship it.
If any of this fits your view of what might be done at Astricon, or you have
other suggestions, please drop me a line off-list.
Dan

Show some examples of the hardware it can run on, if any can be borrowed,
begged, or stolen. Low-power, long-life are the two selling points of
Astlinux to me (and the organization for which I work), so put a Via board
next to some behemoth rack-mounted server, and make sure whoever is on the
stand knows the power consumption of the two units, together with some stats
about HDD lifetime compared to CF.
Just my tuppence - wish I could be there to help out.
