Michael,
On both an atom and via board (at different times), I've gotten consistent
download speeds of 40+mbps on FiOS (35/35 Plan). Consistent being over 15
minutes of constant throughput, so I wouldn't call it 'bursting'. At the
same time, I've been on a call with no noticeable quality degradation.
Ethernet wise, 100mbps on the WAN link (going to ONT) and 1000mbps on the
LAN link (going into an 8x100+2x1000 switch), but only 100mbps on the link
to the computer doing the download. Since my speed was limited by my ISP
(though 'limited' might be an overstatement in this case), I wasn't able to
test for any higher throughput. Atom was 1.8 dual-core with 2GB memory, and
resource wise it didn't even blink.
When you ask about "performance", are you talking about it's ability to
handle data throughput or concurrent voice channels. I wouldn't be to
worried about the former, but the latter is certainly going to be
restricted based on the PBX hardware (and Asterisk in general) much more so
than on available bandwidth at those levels. IMHO, there is no way your
average atom box is going to be able to handle the amount of VoIP calls
necessary to generate 12Mbps, let alone 100Mbps, of traffic. At that level,
you would be talking about hundreds of calls (depending on codec). In that
regard, I've only had maybe 12 concurrent calls going through mine, which
really wasn't much for it to handle based on the hardware. But I did have
them all in a meetme conference, which I was surprised it could handle
perfectly well, especially since half of them were coming in g729 and the
other half as g711, and multiple people talking at the same time.

PS - Have I mentioned how much I love my FiOS?
