If it happens again (let us know) but a simpler fix would be:

$ service msmtp stop
$ service msmtp init
-- or --
"Restart SMTP Mail" from the web interface.

while we set a "timeout 30" option to msmtp, a msmtp process must have hung and 
kept the queue piling up.

Before we added the "timeout 30" this happened from time to time, but since, 
that issue seemed to go away, for most.
