Armin, All /mnt/kd/rc.conf.d/*.conf files will be concatenated in alphabetical order into the system's runtime /etc/rc.conf configuration file.
Any backup should be stored elsewhere. I use the System tab -> Configuration/File Backup: [Basic Configuration Files] as well as enabling Fossil and track incremental changes to the /mnt/kd/rc.conf.d/*.conf files (amount others). Fossil - Software Configuration Management https://doc.astlinux.org/userdoc:tt_fossil Fossil is a godsend, and quite easy to learn to use.
