pbx / # cat /etc/astlinux-release                                   0.4.3

Thanks for that.  Now know the release level.

The hardware as old 10 years ago.  So they are stuck with each other.  Until I replace both and I am able to save the records I want from this one before I shut it off for good.  I have a high school genius hacker check out my firewall etc. and he had a few suggestions.  Never had anyone successfully get past any part, yet.  Nevertheless, I need a newer hardware and astlinux later this summer, I hope.

So how to start / restart the networking portion of 0.4.3 ?   Rebooting from OFF does not work.  I can use the "old" cable modem and it can find that one.  But no other ones can be found when I change it and try to get it to go.   Is the IP hard coded some where ?

Try,

cat /etc/astlinux-release

But that (suspected) version of Asterisk and Linux has so many security vulnerabilities, I would not suggest you connect it to a cable modem.

Is your hardware too old for a modern AstLinux ?

Is there a way to view the 'version' on my astlinux box -->Astlinux 0.4.3 to validate the real answer ?

Here is info I can grab on my astlinux box:

Just for info for others: this "could" be AstLinux 0.4.3 from August 2006 or even older (that was the oldest I could find).

I have rebooted several times but the networking does not properly start and find the cable modem IP address and therefore I have no internet. How to kick start the old system into finding the cable modem IP so that It can finish connecting the network back up ? All the help I can google refers to newer versions than this one and so do not help.

I am planning to modernize the hardware later this year and go with much more modern version. I am not ready yet to start that.
